Some questions for those of you who have made the Tilda dolls. I’m kinda new to sewing and I’m still trying to figure a lot of things out. First, what fabric is it that is used to make the dolls? And my second question, how on earth do you stuff those things? I cut one out, sewed it and then realized there was no way I was going to be able to stuff those arms and legs. Anyone have any tips?

Hi, I don’t know if I can it explain in english. Do you know a spout for making whipped cream on a cake? You can try it with this and a long wood (chinese chopsticks).

Hi!
I use linen fabric to make dolls. And for legs and arms what you should do is to go and have dinner in a Chinese restaurant… ask for a fork and keep the sticks and use that to stuff the arms and legs of your dolls!
I have many sticks at home!
Hope this will be useful… have fun making the doll!
Bests,
Sylvia
I have just goten three Tone Finnanger books, but I have no idea where I might purchase fabric. I live in the United States. Can someone tell me where I might fabric? Thanks.
The instructions in the book will tell you to sew BEFORE you cut: For example for the arms you put the fabric right sides together, draw around the pattern pieces provided in the book and sew on the drawn line. Then cut adding seam allowance. If you cut out the pattern pieces first you will have a harder time as teh arms and legs will be narrower than intended. If you still want to cut out the pattern pieces before you sew, you will need to add seam allowance to all pattern pieces. I turned and stuffed mine using chopsticks. As for fabric, I know this UK site delivers internationally http://www.thefatquarters.co.uk/
Sheila, you live in the best place to buy fabric and cheap!!
In Europe it is very expensive…
Try to find in your city a Jo-ann’s fabrics…

I know you can find many other shops, but I think these are all around US and have cheap things…
Good luck!
For the dolls, the fabric I used for the body was a solid flesh color cotton. For the other fabrics, I used calico fabrics and for the sweater, I used fleece.
What I found for the body is to trace with a light pencil around each piece and then sew with a 2.0 stitch on the line, cut out with a slight seam allowance. I turned the arms, legs, body with chop sticks - I also used those to stuff. I had also used wooden skewers.
I used yarn for the hair and not the doll hair.
I love this blog. Your work is so cute and so well done. I have a radio show on blogtalkradio The Lunch Bunch on Wednesday at noon and will absolutely mention your site.
Hi! I use cotton and linen fabric bought in ebay. I’ve compared with the original fabric and it’s quite similar. Avoid using elastic fabric because it’s hard to stuff.
For stuffing I use a pen or a chinese chopstick and for turning small parts like legs and arms I help myself with a long pincer.
For Tilda-books go to http://www.lapp-elisa.com in Sweden. She will send books etc all over the world.
